Abstract Currently, the main trend is to employ spectroscopic techniques for condition assessment of used engine oils. That a consequence requirement increasing Oil Condition Monitoring (OCM) efficiency. Usually, FTIR (Fourier Transform Infra-red) Spectroscopy employed achieve ability measuring oil and uses spectrum generate relation between attribute-spectrum. To allow this connection, it necessary develop chemometric studies. However, procedure needs previous validation correlate with value attribute measured by standardised techniques. One potential study acidification Total Acid Number (TAN), specially employing ASTM D8045 standard that measures TAN level thermometric titration.
